Change is a part of life. Better thinking leads to transformation, while transition helps to identify the achievements and the impact of changes. The present world is seeing a big transition from a handmade Art to Digital Painting. Digital Painting is not new, however it has reached a turning point to compete with traditional handmade art. Last few years witnessed that artists are more inclined towards digital painting as it gives a pleasure of reusability.

What is Digital Painting?

When we think about traditional painting then our mind is refreshed with paintings of watercolor, oil, acrylic, graphite or charcoal etc,. Now ‘Digital Painting’ is getting space to establish the roots as an art form. Everyone understands ‘Digital’, how it behaves with respect to Painting that’s the curiosity in most of the minds. Digital painting is an emerging painting technique or own kind of art form. Here creative senses are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, stylus, software and graphic tablets. The best part of Digital painting is re-usability, cost saving, unlimited corrections without losing the art-base characteristics.

Digital Painting is derived from Digital Art, it doesn’t involve the programmable or rendered objects. Here Artists apply their creative senses using various tools directly on the computer. All efforts mimic the use of physical Media through various brushes and effects. Digitally styled brushes bring a touch of traditional art style and strokes with respect to traditional art using medium oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, pen and even media such as airbrushing.

In most painting applications, it gives a feature to create your own brush style with a combination of texture and shapes. It’s a unique feature that brings a variance in traditional and digital painting.

Before the introduction of Digital Painting, creative activities were termed as digital art and those were widely used for mass production. Usually those were the conceptual design for film making, television artworks and video games. This digital painting style is very attractive because of perfect looks, sometimes it’s difficult to distinguish the painted work is a real life photo or a digital painting. It acts as an ‘Oxygen’ to the digital art world.

Pros:

  4. Re-usability is the key factor, the same art base can be altered many times without much effort.
  5. Waste management, as all art work done on computer canvas, wastage of colors and canvas is cut down, only final print taken once done.

Cons: 

  1. Still the touch of traditional handmade art work won’t be there.
  2. Cost of the software license is too high and difficult to manage for beginners.

Traditional painting is painting with a physical medium as opposed to a more modern style like digital. A touch of physical painting is a unique expression of feelings, which can’t be achieved via digital art work.

Digital painting is the biggest challenge for traditional painting style. There may be 1000 questions for the handmade painting survival, however one thing is sure that the original traditional art work always shines like diamond.
